Montagnard Youth Community Programs in NC

Montagnard Assistance Project Mission

Provide humanitarian assistance to Montagnard asylum seekers and refugees who have fled persecution in Vietnam. We also support Montagnard orphans in Kontum, Vietnam, and develop community programs to engage the future Montagnard leaders of tomorrow through projects such as Habitat for Humanity.

Montagnard Refugee Assistance in Cambodia and Thailand

Vinh Son Montagnard Orphanage (VSO) is an orphanage in Kontum province, Vietnam. Established by the Catholic Sisters of The Immaculate Medal of Mary in the mid 1970's, they provide primary and secondary education, teach life skills to ensure the children become self-sufficient, give safe environment, food, clothing, shelter and medical care. There are six actual sites that compose the Vinh Son orphanages in and around the city of Kontum. About 800 Montagnard children reside at these sites.

Partnering with Habitat for Humanity, MAP will be working with high school and college age Montagnards who are the hope of tomorrow. We will create mentoring programs, engage in the building of homes for the less fortunate in their communities, and develop a future scholarship program for the youth that are excelling academically.

In Thailand, asylum seekers and refugees have very little access to healthcare, and many of the Montagnards come with chronic illnesses stemming from either torture, or diseases picked up from their journey through the jungles of Cambodia and Thailand. We provide funding for special treatment that the Bangkok Refugee Center can’t provide.

There are approximately 500 refugees in the Bangkok, Thailand and Phnom Penh, Cambodia, many of whom have no means to housing or food. Through our volunteers in- country, we assess each individual or family’s needs, and provide financial assistance. We also are creating educational opportunities in Cambodia for ESL, math and science. MAP will also be active in coordinating efforts with UNHCR for interviews, translators, and any other NGO resources available for their well-being.
